The following notes provide a simple overview of what happens to your personal data when you visit our website. Personal data is any data that can be used to personally identify you.
3. Collection and processing of personal data
- User accounts: You may require a user account with an email address to use the service
- Learning progress: Your learning activities are saved to track your progress
- Device permissions: Optionally, you can grant us access to the microphone, camera, or GPS
- Usage data: We collect anonymous data regarding app usage and error reports

This app optionally requires the following device permissions:
- Geolocation: For location-based dialogues (optional, can be deactivated)
- Microphone: For speech input and pronunciation exercises (optional)
- Camera: For image translations using OCR (optional)
- Notifications: For reminders and information regarding your learning activities (optional)
You can deactivate all permissions in the iOS/Android settings. The app remains functional without these permissions.
4a. Offers from your region
Only if you activate "Offers from my region" in the settings (consent pursuant to Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a GDPR and § 25 TDDDG), we determine your region roughly from your location (zip code, city, federal state). Only this region is stored, not exact coordinates. We use this exclusively to display relevant proprietary advertisements and partner offers (e.g., language schools, banks) within the app.
- Location and region are not passed on to advertising or affiliate partners
- Partner links contain only an anonymous click ID, no user ID
- There is no tracking across apps or websites of other providers
- You can revoke your consent at any time in the settings; the stored region will then be deleted
4b. Push notifications (OneSignal)
If you allow push notifications, the app will send reminders and information about your learning activities (e.g., vocabulary reminders, wake-up calls, appointment reminders, daily questions, and news) via the push notification service OneSignal. Enabling this is voluntary: the app is fully usable without push notifications.
- Processed data: Device identifier (push token) of your device, your app user ID for assigning the messages, technical device information (e.g., operating system), and timestamps of delivery
- Purpose: Delivery of learning reminders and app notifications; no advertising or tracking across apps or websites of other providers takes place
- Participating services: OneSignal (dispatch) as well as the delivery systems of Apple (APNs) or Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging) for your operating system
- Legal basis: Your voluntary consent (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a GDPR)
- Revocation: You can deactivate notifications at any time in the app or device settings; registration of the device ends automatically upon uninstallation of the app
5. Data storage
- Server-side: Email, user profile, learning history
- Locally: Cache for offline functionality (IndexedDB, LocalStorage)
- You may delete your account and all associated data at any time
6. Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and LocalStorage to:
- Keep you logged in
- Save your preferences
- Improve app performance
- Enable offline functionality
7. Third-party providers
This app may use external services:
- Base44: Backend-as-a-Service Platform
- Google APIs (optional, for social login)
